Learning Days

Primary Schools » Concept

'Learning Days' are full days of teaching on a theme. The content is written in such a way as to engage the children, whilst carefully building in links to the national curriculum. Every Learning Day is trialled extensively in schools prior to release.

One of the most distinctive aspects of the resources is that the lesson plans are fully detailed, prescriptive and easy to follow. There is great in-built flexibility that allows teachers to deliver the content in their own style. Learning Days are being delivered by class teachers, HLTAs, headteachers and supply teachers. Sometimes the Learning Day is delivered in two half-day sessions. Many HLTAs like to use them in hourly blocks over the course of several weeks.

Learning Days are easy to follow and require little preparation. They provide a convenient solution to teacher absences because they can be used by those who provide cover. Pupils enjoy the day because the content is delivered in a fun and interactive way, allowing key messages to be taught very effectively.
